2) Does your caller ID also display names? (some services ONLY give the number)
3) Are the settings correct in the setup window? (try to use the DATA RATE not the speed of your modem - if you have a 14,400 use 19,200 - if you have a 28,800 use 38,400 etc.)
4) Are you using the correct port (comm ports 1 - 9 are avail...default is comm 2)
5) Are you allowing enough time for the data in the receive buffer on your modem to be retrieved by the program? (retrieval delay - modem setup)
6) Are you using the correct command? (3 are supplied but you may want to check the modem's information - most modems have caller id turned OFF by DEFAULT)
7) Does one version work, but not the other? (let me know via email)
8) Is the comm port in which you are using being SHARED? (Start>settings>control panel>system>device manager>modem icon>choose your modem by double clicking)
9) Does your modem support caller id?
10) If your modem is external, make sure it is turned on.
11) Does the display say "Waiting for call.." ?(if not you have the settings set incorrectly)
12) Can you dial out using the dialer? (if not, modem settings are incorrect).
13) Read the readme file and try to put the files in the directories specified (there is a small chart there). By default, the .exe file will go into the c:\program files\SnakeID\ directory. The .wav files (1.wav - 0.wav), .exe file (SnakeID.exe or SnakeID demo.exe), and readme file (readme.txt) should already be there, email me if you had to move a file for any reason.
14) If you get "Error 55 - file already open" when you are changing the modem settings, you threw an error earlier and it is still "there". You can get around this error by editing the mdmset.ini file located in the root directory (c:\). To edit it, Click START then RUN. Then type in "notepad c:\mdmset.ini" (or run notepad then load the file). In there you should see something like this
AT#CID=1, 38400, 2, 1000
These are the settings for the modem so it can initialize. Change the data listed. AT#CID=1 is the Caller ID command for the modem (there are others, but this is default), 38400 is the data rate of the modem. It indicates that the modem is a 28,800. The "2" is the port on which the modem lies, and 1000 is the retreival delay. This small bug will be fixed soon, but until it is, you can edit the file as instructed above. Save the file then run SnakeID. You should be able to run it and make other changes (such as delay) to the modem using the modem setup.
